We have been supplying high-pressure forged gate valves S43 for 10 years and they have been installed in a number of conventional power plants and industrial facilities in various countries such as Germany, Kazakhstan, Latvia and Slovakia, but in 2020, for the first time, we had to deal with an extremely demanding order, according to the special requirements of a Doosan Škoda Power customer who required high-pressure gate valves for a working temperature of 595 °C and a working pressure of 224 bar. IMPLEMENTATION OF ARAKO For this special order, 3 pieces Forged Gate Valves S43 ON 125/110 PN S43 DN 80/65 PN 630 and S43 DN 50/50 PN 630 with weld ends design were manufactured for work in extreme conditions. The forged gate valves were installed in the so-called supercritical block of power plants, where temperatures reach above 600 °C, and therefore we had to modif the design and control calculations for the gate valves. The material 1.6368, which is suitable for the most demanding applications up to 650 °C, was used to manufacture the bodies, bonnets and wedges. The sealing surfaces were welded with Stellite 6. This type of welding compound is resistant to high temperatures, resistant to steam and is the only one that meets the requirements for the permissible contact pressure on the sealing surfaces of the wedge and seat. The bonnet sealing was achieved by using special graphite gaskets and packing by POWER pack 1000-lnconet TA. All forged gate valves are operated by a combination of gearbox + electric actuator supplied by the customer and on our side we delivered the gate valves with modification for F25B2 actuator. During the entire production process, the Forged Gate Valves S43 were subjected to all mandatory checks according to European standards. The specific requirements of this order were managed and the forged gate valves were dispatched to the customer’s full satisfaction through the mutual cooperation of design, technology and of course our manufacture. All delivered High-Pressure Forged Gate Valves S43 are now fully operational and fully functional. PRODUCT INSTALLATION The manufactured high-pressure forged gate valves were installed in the New Unit of the Ledvice Thermal Power Plant in the Czech Republic, where they work as a closing element between the boiler and the turbine (the medium is steam). The New power plant in Ledvice is a highly environmentally friendly generating unit with supercritical parameters and one of the most modem conventional power plants in Central Europe. It is a 660 MWe supercritical condensing unit with one steam heating and nine-stage regenerative feedwater heating. The steam source is a tower-fired granulation boiler with supercritical steam parameters of 600 °C / 610 °C / 28 MPa, with a cooling water inlet temperature of 18.5 °C, and the efficiency of the boiler itself is 91.23 %. Currently, only Unit 4 with an output of 110 MW and the new Unit 6 (the so-called New Source) with an output of 660 MW are in operation. The Ledvice power plant is located at the foot of the eastern part of the mountains Krušné Hory between the spa towns of Teplice and Bílina and supplies heat to customers in the immediate vicinity.
