ARAKO receives positive audit result for Kudankulam NPP project in India

Monday, 11 september 2023

On 29 – 31 August 2023, our company was audited by Atomstrojexport (AO ASE) customer for data credibility and qualification of ARAKO spol. s r.o. as a supplier of valves for the construction of Units 5 – 6 of Kudankulam NPP.

Overall, we were successful in the audit and received a very high rating. During the three days, the auditors checked the project management processes, our company’s guidelines and standards, quality assurance of the production process, etc.

In the final report, we received a few recommendations from the auditors to improve some of our processes, but overall ARAKO was rated very positively and fully demonstrated its capability to meet the requirements to deliver for Kudankulam Units 5 and 6.

The other positive results of the audit are mainly due to our employees. Employees at all levels of the organisation have demonstrated professionalism and a responsible approach to their activities.  We would like to thank them for their active cooperation in preparation for the audit as well as their personal participation during the audit and their contribution to the positive results.

About the project

The construction of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant has been divided into three phases of two units each. The first two units entered commercial operation in 2017. Construction work on the second phase began in 2016 and is expected to be operational in 2023. Units 5 and 6 are expected to be completed in 75 months, or in 2027. When all six units are completed, the Kudankulam nuclear power plant will be one of the largest power plants in the world.

The Kudankulam nuclear power plant uses VVER-1000 reactors in the AES-92 version. The technical solutions used in this project are based on the further evolution of VVER technology, which has led to a new generation of reactors with higher power, better reliability, safety and operating economics. The units of this nuclear power plant meet the latest International Atomic Energy Agency nuclear safety requirements.

ARAKO has already supplied its valves to this nuclear power plant in 2005-2008 for Units 1 and 2. In 2019 -2021, over 2,000 nuclear shut-off and control valves have been delivered from our existing portfolio for the completion of Units 3 and 4.

We are currently continuing to supply additional new special valves, namely control valves and butterfly valves, which we are gradually adding to our portfolio from 2020.
