Monday, 11 november 2019

The first of November, the second unit of NPP-II Novovoronezh reactor VVER-1200 generation III + put into commercial operation.

The VVER-1200 is the „flagship“ of Rosatom’s Generation III + pressurized water reactors and the only Generation III + Generator in the world under construction. The second unit of the Novovoronezh II power plant is the third unit of this type in series. It was preceded by the first unit of the same power plant launched in 2016 and the first unit of the Leningrad II nuclear power plant launched in 2017. Since the grid connection on 1 May 2019, the unit has already generated 2.5 TWh of electricity.

ARAKO was also actively involved in the construction of the innovative Units 1 and 2 of the Novovoronezhn NPP, which supplied 14,324 special valves for nuclear energy to this project from 2012 to 2017years . These were mostly Globe valves with bellow A10, A11, A20, A21, Check valves A30 and Quick-acting globe valve with belows A13.

The innovative Generation III + block with VVER-1200 has a number of economic and safety advantages over the previous generation (VVER-1000): 20% more power, 30% to 40% less operating personnel, and twice the design time ( 60 years, with the possibility of extension for another 20 years).

The following countries have chosen this technology: Finland, Hungary, China, Bangladesh and Belarus. Rosatom’s foreign order portfolio currently includes 36 VVER block projects in various stages of implementation in 12 countries.
