A new 900 megawatt (MW) combined-cycle power plant has begun construction in Yellowhead County, approximately 12 km southwest of Edson, Alberta, in Western Canada. Construction will take place in two phases of 450 MW each. The first phase is expected to be completed by October 2022, while the second phase will be completed in the fourth quarter of the same year. For this plant, we have supplied 36 pieces of Globe Valves C08 and 4 pieces of Blow-Out and Pickling Device from our product portfolio, valued at €185,812.
About the project
The proposed power plant project will require a total investment of approximately C$1.5 billion ($1.12 billion) and will be capable of providing electricity to approximately 900,000 homes and businesses in Alberta. The facility will be equipped with natural gas and steam turbines and will have the ability to generate 50% more electricity compared to a conventional simple cycle power plant. The combined cycle plant is expected to produce 62% less CO₂ equivalent per MWh compared to current coal-fired power generation facilities. The plant will require up to 150 000 (GJ) of natural gas per day as fuel.
